4 months

Every week when we take these pictures, we look back through pictures of weeks 1 to present and we are always so amazed at how much he has grown!

16 wks - 8766There’s not a whole lot to report this week, he is doing great, sleeping well and we had a fun weekend out and about in San Diego.  The next 2 weeks we have a lot going on, so I will have some fun things to share with you.

Thanks for checking in!

Birthday celebrations

We’ve had a busy but fun few days!  Saturday was my birthday.  Justin’s parents and grandma came for the day and we had a nice lunch at Pacific Coast Grill with a beautiful view of the ocean! And they got their Jacob fix.

IMG_8582IMG_8585That night Jacob went to bed pretty early (and slept 9.5 hrs that night!) Justin and I stayed up, shared a bottle of wine and played cards (I won 🙂 ), just like we used to do all the time before we were parents.  On Sunday, we met up with a friend from work and her husband at a small local winery with another gorgeous view for lunch and of course a glass of wine.

Then today, a group of my girlfriends (and kiddos) all got together to celebrate the 3 of us whose birthdays are in April.  It was a pretty ambitious idea, we had 7 moms and 10 kids altogether.  But all in all, it went well, no major meltdowns, nobody got their eyes poked with a fork, no glasses were broken, we definitely were the loudest table in the restaurant (even though they sat us in the very back) and our poor waiter probably quit after we left!  As always I had my camera with me at all these events but only got it out after lunch to hand to a stranger to take a picture of us. Again, an ambitious idea to try and corral all these kids for a photo, but we did it.  It’s an imperfect photo, but I love it just as much.

IMG_8630And in the middle of all this Jacob turned 15 weeks old, here’s our wild child!

IMG_8620Hope you have a wonderful week!

20 things…

It is a cool overcast day today and Jacob has been a snugly cuddle bug all day long, and I am loving it!  Daddy just came home from a meeting, so I passed our snuggle bug off to him so I could get something accomplished (like eat lunch) and he promptly fell back asleep (that’s what I do too when daddy is watching the Masters on the golf channel).

Since we are all warm and fuzzy over here I thought it was the perfect day to share this.  I’ve seen it circulating on Pinterest and Facebook a few times.  Now that I have a son, it has a whole new meaning to me and I think it is a good reminder how instrumental parents are to shaping their children and teaching them about what kind of person to be.  Sure they will grow up and make their own choices, but you can talk to them about these kinds of things early and pray that they will make the right choices in life.

20 things a mother should tell her son
1. Play a sport.  It will teach you how to win honorably, lose gracefully, respect authority, work with others, manage your time and stay out of trouble.   And maybe even throw or catch.

2. You will set the tone for the sexual relationship, so don’t take something away from her that you can’t give back.

3. Use careful aim when you pee.  Somebody’s got to clean that up, you know.

4. Save money when you’re young because you’re going to need it some day.

5. Allow me to introduce you to the dishwasher, oven, washing machine, iron, vacuum, mop and broom.  Now please go use them.

6. Pray and be a spiritual leader.

7. Don’t ever be a bully and don’t ever start a fight, but if some idiot clocks you, please defend yourself.

8. Your knowledge and education is something that nobody can take away from you.

9. Treat women kindly.  Forever is a long time to live alone and it’s even longer to live with somebody who hates your guts.

10. Take pride in your appearance.

11. Be strong and tender at the same time.

12. A woman can do everything that you can do.  This includes her having a successful career and you changing diapers at 3 A.M.  Mutual respect is the key to a good relationship.

13. “Yes ma’am” and “yes sir” still go a long way.

14. The reason that they’re called “private parts” is because they’re “private”.  Please do not scratch them in public.

15. Peer pressure is a scary thing.  Be a good leader and others will follow.

16. Bringing her flowers for no reason is always a good idea.

17. Be patriotic.

18. Potty humor isn’t the only thing that’s humorous.

19. Please choose your spouse wisely.  My daughter-in-law will be the gatekeeper for me spending time with you and my grandchildren.

20. Remember to call your mother because I might be missing you.

Here’s our 14 week old snuggle bug!

14 wks - 8469edMy excitement about sleeping for 8 hours last week was short lived, as in the two days I blogged aboutHowever…these past two nights he has been sleeping 6 hours, then we have the 2 am feeding and then he sleeps for another 6 hours!  So I can’t complain, we will see what the next week will bring.

Happy Sunday!

The Fan vs The Mobile

At first I was not planning on getting a mobile for Jacob’s crib, I figured I would have the bouncy seat & swing that have things dangling down for him to look at and play with.  I really didn’t think I would lay him in his crib that often to watch a mobile spin around.  One day when he started waking up to the world around him, he started paying attention to the things hanging from the ceiling.  He still to this day LOVES to giggle and talk to the light hanging over the kitchen table regardless if it is turned on or not, it is his best friend. When I lay him in his crib to get him dressed I noticed him looking up at the letters we have hanging on the wall over his crib and if he is looking the other way he is absolutely captivated by the ceiling fan. I began to think that buying a mobile would be a good idea, it could entertain him while I am getting him dressed and he could lay in the crib and watch the mobile while I pick up around his room.  So $50 later he has a Noah’s Ark mobile spinning over his crib.IMG_7937

It has a mommy and daddy set of lions, monkeys, elephants and zebras.  Does he like it? Sure!

IMG_7922I would even go as far to say he loves it.  He spends plenty of time cooing and giggling at the animals going around.  But… if he gets a glimpse of the ceiling fan out of the corner of his eye,

IMG_7839forget the mobile he’s watching the fan.

IMG_7942Again, regardless if it is turned on or not the fan is waaaay cooler than the mobile.  If he is fussy, I turn on the fan and he starts to calm down. It has kind of become part of our bedtime routine…when he doesn’t want to go to sleep I turn on the fan, it catches his attention and it almost hypnotizes him and he watches it spin around until he can’t keep his eyes open anymore. I should have saved myself the $50 and hung some stuffed animals from the fan…but then that wouldn’t even be necessary, just a simple fan will do for this dude.

8 hours

There’s a lot of things you can get done in an 8 hour time frame.  8 hours is a full day of work for most people, you can do some serious shopping, or cleaning, or traveling for 8 hours can get you to some fun destinations.  My favorite thing to do for 8 hours these days is sleep, and that is exactly what Jacob has done for the past 2 nights!  Hallelujah!  I’m praying that it lasts, or at least for a while…

Here’s our happy, rested 13 week old!

Easter

Apparently being born on a Sunday means your weekly “birthdays” fall on a lot of holidays, at least that has been the case so far…Jacob was 1 month old on Superbowl Sunday (ok technically that’s not a holiday, maybe it should be?), he was 10 weeks old on St. Patrick’s Day and then he turned 12 weeks old on Easter Sunday! Our 3 month old is starting to get the hang of this picture thing and instead of giving us the how did I get stuck with these crazy people as my parents look…he started cracking a smile and I caught a glimpse of it with my camera.

IMG_7963edA few things…Jacob has found his voice and has been babbling a lot lately.  He still loves his hands and is trying to figure out how to get both fists into his mouth.  Everyone says that babies eye color stops changing around 3 months, if that is the case, then Jacob’s eyes are a blue grey.  Now we are guessing what color his hair will be?  And our 15 lb 3 month old is wearing 6 month old clothes already!

Our Easter weekend was fun and filled with family and friends.  My grandma was on a little Spring Break and was staying at my Aunt & Uncle’s house for a few days.  So on Friday, Jacob and I drove to Oceanside so he could spend some time with his Oma.

IMG_7960ed

On Saturday we packed up the car and drove to the desert.  On the way we made a stop at Vista Point to feed the baby, change his diaper, walk the dog and clean up all the dog throw up in the backseat.  While we were there we took in the view and showed Jacob the town that we both grew up in…he was more interested in trying to get his fist into his mouth.

IMG_7984edOnce we arrived, Jacob’s Aunt Stacey & Sue and cousin Lisa and her family were there and we had a great afternoon visiting with them.

IMG_7990edIMG_7988ed

Unfortunately, what Justin thought was allergies he had been fighting turned out to be some kind of 48 hour bug so he was in bed for most of the day.  On Sunday morning he was feeling a little bit better and we were able to get a family picture for Jacob’s first Easter.

IMG_8000edThat afternoon more family and friends came to visit, first up were Judy & Karen

IMG_8010ed

When it came time for Sarah to hold him she knew exactly how to make Jacob happy… stand up while holding him, he gets a little restless if you are sitting down.

IMG_8007ed

And we were so happy to see Monica and her contagious smile 🙂

IMG_8020ed

Since Justin was still not feeling 100% he was not allowed to get too close to Jacob, so Apollo enjoyed being back in first place for a day and soaked up all the attention he could get.

IMG_8021ed

It was a wonderful weekend with friends and family celebrating our risen Lord. Happy Easter!

He is not here; he has risen, just as he said ~ Matthew 28:6

Pulling his weight

I have a VHS video of Justin strutting his stuff down a catwalk as a Bullock’s kid modeling their boy’s clothing. Somehow I need to get that converted to a DVD so we can watch it since we don’t even own a VCR player.  As a young teenager, my mom schlepped me back and forth to Los Angeles countless times for photo shoots, casting calls and meetings with my agent and I did some local fashion shows as well. So when it comes to modeling Jacob comes by it naturally…he had his first modeling gig today!

A friend of ours at church who owns a design company was looking for a baby for one of his projects and was not finding what he was looking for through the modeling agencies.  He thought Jacob was just what he needed and asked if we would be interested. I probably shouldn’t go into details about the project yet since I don’t know if it is supposed to be public knowledge or not, but once I get the finished product I’ll share it with you!  We spent the morning at a studio taking a bazillion photos.
IMG_0485

Jacob did great and they were pleased with the results!

IMG_0481

God knows he has had plenty of experience in front of a camera, this blog is a testament to that!  At 11 weeks old we’ve got this kid trained to start pulling his weight around here and working to contribute to paying the family expenses (or at least his diapers) 🙂

The 3 of us became 6

Remember my two girlfriends who were pregnant the same time I was?  We took belly shots at Jaime’s shower, Julia’s shower and my shower.  We have had so much fun with the babies since they’ve arrived!  On Sunday we watched the Aztec game with a group of our college friends and we finally got it together to take a picture of the three of us and the babies.
IMG_7892edJaime’s little girl has mastered the art of thumb sucking and she makes it look absolutely adorable! Julia’s little girl has the most captivating eyes, the kind of eyes that grab your attention from a mile away.  Her daddy will be carrying a shotgun around when she’s older I’m sure!  And then there’s Jacob the boy, we are surrounded by baby girls, even ones who have not been born yet.  He sure is going to have his ladies to choose from!
It is going to be so much fun watching these three grow up over the years!

Eleven

Jacob is 11 weeks old… We wore our red and black Aztec colors today to support SDSU in March Madness.  Unfortunately, they lost tonight’s game 🙁 It’s funny, he is all smiles until I start taking pictures and he becomes so serious and stoic.  I hope he is not developing an aversion to my camera, either that or he is in shock at his daddy dancing and waving around behind me taking pictures trying to get him to smile.
IMG_7882

We’ve had a pretty great week as far as sleep goes!  He went back to 6.5 to 7 hours between feedings at night and also started taking a long (2 to 2.5 hr) nap in the morning then another decent nap in the early afternoon as well as his 30 minute catnaps in between.  This is a much needed improvement from his every 3 to 4 hour awakenings he has been doing the previous 2 weeks. Which means  I am a happy momma these days 🙂

About a week and a half ago every time I went to feed him during the night he had wriggled his way out of his swaddle.  At first he just wanted access to his hands so he could shove his fists into his mouth.  Then he completely freed his arms and lays with them outstretched.  He broke out of 3 different swaddle types that I have, so I gave up on swaddling him and that is the end of that phase.  Occasionally I will still swaddle him up to soothe him if he’s fussy, but it takes him about 5 seconds to get his hands out.  Right now sucking on his hands is very soothing.  Now when I look at him while he’s sleeping he looks so much older with his arms stretched out and he is not all swaddled up like a tiny newborn.

Speaking of newborns…some friends at church recently had a baby girl and a few days ago I made a casserole and took it over to their house.  I got to hold their little girl who was 7 lbs 10 oz at the time and I was absolutely AMAZED at how small she was and I do NOT remember Jacob being that small.  It is crazy how easily you forget those early days. Even when those early days were only 11 weeks ago…

Jacob has been an absolute joy and entertains us every day with his smiles, recently he started sticking his tongue out at us.  He still hates doing tummy time, but we keep working on that.  He is becoming more and more aware of his surroundings.  While he is feeding if the dog shakes his collar or Justin says something or there is some other kind of noise he stops eating and his eyes are wide open trying to figure out what the noise is and where it is coming from. It has made feedings in a public place a bit of a challenge.

He still enjoys the occasional bottle from daddy too.

Happy St Patty’s Day

Our little Leprechaun is 10 weeks old today!

IMG_7771edWe made sure to wear green to church today.  Up to this point all of Jacob’s clothes have been all about daddy – Daddy’s Rockstar, Daddy’s All Star, I love Daddy, etc…He finally fits into one of his Mommy outfits!  If you can’t read it, it says, “My mom is cooler than your mom” 🙂

IMG_7735ed IMG_7745edHe was so alert and in such a giggly mood today so we kept snapping pictures.  It must be because he went 5 to 6 hours between feedings for the last 2 nights!  Which means this momma was more alert and giggly as well!

IMG_7784edAnd of course we had to get his St Patty’s Day bib out for a photo too!

IMG_7824ed IMG_7820edEnjoy your corned beef, cabbage and green beer!
